“My light shining doesn't dim yours” is one of Doni’s favorite quotes. She truly believes that you must have a positive and growth mindset to pursue your dreams. With a digital marketing background, she turned her successful blogging into a legitimate business. Doni is committed to investing, influencing, inspiring and leaving her mark on this world.
Describe how did you first get into digital marketing?
Well I've been blogging for about six or seven years now, and in order to be a successful blogger you need to have a decent amount of digital marketing skills. Along with that, I went to school for fashion marketing. When I was in school, I realized I enjoyed the classes that were focused specifically on the marketing aspect.
Right after having this epiphany, I quit school because I felt like I needed a non-fashion related degree. Around 6 months later, I started my agency. Originally, I'd planned to just start doing freelance work, but all of my clients began to ask me why don't I just start my agency now. So, that's what really pushed me to make my services into a legit business.
What has been your biggest fear and how did you conquer it?
I think my biggest fear is not reaching my end goal and not having someone to share my success with. The main thing I do when I feel these feelings arise is remind myself of the mantra above, because God's timing and arrangements are always so much better than anything I could ever think of or hope for. I also just invest myself into my work, because focusing on your fears too long can cause you to spiral. It's all about refocusing.
What does a normal day look like in your world?
Every day is honestly so different. Some days I'm just at home working, and other days I'm out shooting content for clients, having meetings, or attending industry events.
What mantra do you live by?
I have two.
1) Everything happens for a reason and in the timing that it's supposed to happen.
2) There's enough for everyone. My light shining doesn't dim yours, and vice versa.
What is something you want people to know about you?
I want people to know that my biggest goal with everything that I put out is to inspire, influence and progress the culture in some way. If nothing else, I hope to leave an impact and make you feel positive.
What advice do you have for aspiring creators?
Of course I could say “don't give up and persevere,” but my advice is to be clear on what you want and follow through with it. I've seen some of the best creators give up too early, be indecisive with their visions and goals, and not see things through.
I completely understand because I've been there, but when you can bet on yourself, that's the most valuable thing when it comes to reaching your goals. Build resilience and faith in your ability, and most importantly be shameless in the pursuit of your goals. Once you do that, you'll begin to see the results you've always wanted.
What are your plans for the future? Where can we find your work?
I have a few projects I'm currently working on. I'm changing the format of my services to scale my business a bit. My blog is also coming back, and I'm going to be doing some pretty cool workshops this coming spring! That's all I can share right now, but you can stay updated daily on my Instagram at @thedonibrown and to check out my services, you can visit my site.
